The Great Holiday

By now I am sure that you are familiar with the phrase ‘The Great Resignation’ and the notion that, due to the pandemic, skilled workers will be resigning en masse as we emerge into a Covid-normal landscape.

At Johnson Recruitment we see a much more pressing matter that organisations need to plan for – ‘The Great Holiday’.

Staff are burnt out and needing an extended break. After nearly two years of growing leave balances, increased stress, burnout, and extremely limited opportunities to use annual or long service leave effectively, it seems obvious that all staff – including the Executive – will be seeking to take significant breaks from work.

This will only exacerbate the candidate shortages we’ve experienced this year and will no doubt bring with it an increase in the demand for interim and leave-cover contract work.

Organisations will need to plug these gaps with seasoned contractors and temporary workers with specialist skill sets in key areas such as HR, Finance and Administration.

It is therefore incumbent on every leader to have a clear attraction and retention strategy and to ensure their organisation’s Employee Value Proposition is the best it possibly can be if they are to market their organisation to prospective talent and retain staff in such a competitive job market.

We look forward to working with all of our clients to help them meet the challenges and seize the opportunities that inevitably will present themselves. We continue to provide support to the opportunities, challenges and uncertainties that you all face to attract, develop and retain your workforce in an ever-changing environment.
